‘Char Siu’ Baked Tofu – Hiroko’s Recipes

The other day, I was thinking of what to cook for my vegan friends. Then an idea came to me. Marinate Fried Tofu with my ‘Char Siu’ Sauce, which I am very proud of, then bake it in the oven. ‘It would be super easy and delicious,’ I thought. Today I tried to cook it. I used Fried Firm Tofu that was already cut into large bite-size pieces. I highly recommend this delicious dish for not only Vegan people but also everyone to try.

Makes

4 Servings

Ingredients

400 to 500g Fried Firm Tofu

Salad Vegetables to serve *optional

‘Char Siu’ Sauce
1 clove Garlic *grated
1 small piece Ginger *grated
2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
2 tablespoons Ketchup
1/2 tablespoon Hoisin Sauce
1/4 teaspoon Salt
*Note: Ground Chilli can be added

Method

Place Fried Firm Tofu in a colander, pour boiling water over and remove unwanted Oil, OR you can simply rinse under hot tap water. If you use a large block, cut into large bite-size pieces.

Combine all the ‘Char Siu’ Sauce ingredients in a mixing bowl OR container, add Tofu pieces, coat them with the Sauce all over, then set aside for 1 hour, mixing them occasionally.

Preheat oven to 220℃. Line a baking tray with baking paper, place Tofu pieces on the tray, and start baking.

The Sauce is now probably watery as water came out form Tofu. Cook the Sauce in a small frying pan until thickens. You can place it in a heat-proof bowl and heat it up in the microwave until thickens.

Take the Tofu out from the oven, spread some Sauce on each Tofu pieces, then bake for 10 to 15 minutes OR until nicely browned.
