Shwedagon Pagoda is one of the most famous pagoda in Myanmar where the Buddha’s hair and many more holy relics are enshrined there. Shwedagon pagoda is considered to be the most sacred relics to those of people in Myanmar. A visit to Myanmar would not be completed without a visit to Shwedagon pagoda. The pagoda is covered with gold plates and many diamonds and jewel at the top of the stupa. In addition, Shwedagon pagoda is the place of Myanmar’s heritage such as sculpture, art carving, architecture and so on.
Shwedagon Pagoda is religion’s place of offering water, candle and flowers to the pagoda, meditation, etc. Apart from that, sitting silently and watch the pagoda reflecting in the blue sky at night is also a breathtakingly beautiful scene. It’s recommended to visit before sun setting as you can see the pagoda before dark and also night scene. For foreigners, the entrance fee of $5 is required. They will provide you a small sticker and receipt after the payment
Buddhist festivals and full moon days are always a crowded day. Traditionally a religious Myanmar Buddhist person will surely visit Shwedagon pagoda on their birthday to pray, donate money, meditate and so on. Myanmar people will give a visit to pagoda no matter they are happy or sad. Simple and universal truth, regardless of religions or beliefs we all pray for happiness, healthy, wealthy, and peace to ourselves, families, friends and others. In Myanmar, people usually pray for fulfillment and healthy both physically and mentally. In addition a prayer to have a life cool like a water and nice fragrant like a flower. I am not so sure about another culture but it seems very Myanmar tradition for me to have such a prayer.
